Deli-blog 2
Hi One and all!
It is I Rachel Delicata. Just sharing my thoughts and feelings just general random stuff really, just in case someone wants to read it.
Last night my two woman band " Delicata " consisting of me and Shirley Novak, Played a gig intitled "peace in our time" at the Quad in my home town in Derby. This was put together by Vox Feminarum marking the arrival of the film War Horse to the Quad.
So we watched some performances andsome poetry readings about peace and the awfulness of war and the strength of the human spirit in such extreme circumstances.
While listening I thought of a fact my father told me about how war affected him and my grandparents during the second world war. Delicata isn't a made up name it's my surname and that name originates from the country of my fathers birth "Italy".
The fact was Atina where my family were farmers, was occupied by German soldiers. They were holding the entire village inclouding my Nono and Nona hostage in their barn. They were starving, my grand mother (Nona) Maria was heavily with pregnant with my father.
She was allowed back into their home to give birth to my father. The first person to hold my father was a German soldier.
Listening to this story when I was a chiled I remember thinking thank goodness war is a thing of the past, that "we" would never be daft enough to be at war again. three wars later I see the world as a very unsettled place. Listening to the people at the Quad talking of how War has impacted on their life.
In 2011 we my partner Jo and I went to New York. When sailing back from Elis Island you could still see the crains in that were working on the ground zero sight. Everyone seemed to be asking about 9/11 still ten year on. You could see it was something New Yorkers and my generation will never forget.
Our part in the night at the quad last night was more the lighter entertainment side of things. We chose to includ in our set Bob Dylan's "blowing in the wind" and John lennon's Imagine.
We received some lovely comments from the Audiance which means so much to us. After so long for both me and Shirley without playing publicly we with your support have a rekindeled love of performing music. The response for our audiances has been overwhelmingly lovely. Far better then we could have hoped when we started back in March 2011.
Don't forget to keep in touch through Delicatamusic.com we hope to see you soon.
Love Rachel

Deliblog 1 January 2012
Welcome to the first DeliBlog ever!
This week we have (Shirley Novak and I Rachel Delicata) have been to Superfly Studios in Ollerton with a top, full-on celeb photographer Dave Tully we shot a few videos and had a bit of a photo shoot done! Get us!
Since starting our project in March 2011 we have been overwhelmed and overjoyed at the support and encouragement people have shown us.
The reaction to our EP has been better then we could have ever imagined we are both very proud of it. I am more then amazed that I am playing music again after what i joking refer to as an early retirement.
I honestly thought I would never again bellow in public. Until I met my accomplice Shirley.
I don't think we ever actually discussed if we want to start gigging again i think we were swept away by a tsunami of enthusiasm.
We have played some really great places. I can't tell you how wonderful it is standing there playing your heart out and watching the faces of our audience reacting to the music. Its like a hot water bottle up your jumper on bonfire night. Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.
We are going to be playing some privet parties this year birthdays, Civll Partnerships etc which we are massively looking forward to. As well as usual the Quad in Derby's Market Square. We are there on 20th Jan 2012. For a piece in our time evening we will be playing some peace themed songs.
We will also be playing at the Book Cafe in Derby 4th Feb 2012 with our good friend Eleanor Lee who's voice is and playing is pure class. We would love to see you there!.
